Obed River Kennel was founded by George and Melba Hudson. George, an avid bird hunter was taught to shoot birds in flight by his mentor -- Buck Stewart, co-owner of Ideal Furniture (now Mayberry's Furniture).
His long-time friend, Chet Turner of Turner Quarry, sold George's first dog to Melba, who bought the dog for George as a gift. This event began George's love for bird dogs and all breeds. He would own several dogs at a time.
In 1991, upon a suggestion made by George's veterinarian, Dr. Hall, Obed River Kennel was conceived and opened. So began a service that would grow into the premier dog kennel of the Cumberland Plateau.
As time went on, customers began asking for their pets to be bathed. Melba didn't want them to be bathed in her bath tub, so she took a two-week vacation from TAP Publishing, drove to Knoxville everyday to attend grooming classes and then setup shop in their garage.
Obed River Kennel is a full-service pet grooming, pet boarding and pet daycare facility located at 809 Old Lantana Road in Crossville, Tennessee. Monitored 24-hours a day, Obed River Kennel offers a safe, friendly environment for your pet.
